Docks, Seawalls and Sand Guidelines

Requirements for Docks:

Docks must not extend beyond 30 feet into the water beyond the owner’s property line.  It is the responsibility of the homeowner to determine the location of the property line, which may require a survey to establish.

Docks must have reflectors at the corners furthest out into the lake.

Docks must be maintained so they do not become hazards to water vessels or skiers.

The top surface of fixed height docks must be at or above an elevation of 966.8 feet.

The top surface of stationary docks must be adjusted periodically to ensure it is always at least 4 inch above the current lake level.

Guideposts for floating docks must be long enough to ensure that the dock can float to a level of 968.8 feet without floating off the guides.

Requirements for Seawalls:

Seawalls must not extend beyond the owner’s property line.  It is the responsibility of the homeowner to determine the location of the property line, which may require a survey to establish.

The top surface of seawalls must be built to a minimum elevation of 968 feet.

Requirements for Grading Projects:

The homeowner is required to provide adequate drainage of the area to ensure that the material is not washed into the lake; is not permitted to alter the natural flow of water into another property; and is required to contain material from washing into the lake with a retaining wall.

For sand beaches, a retaining wall may not be necessary if the slope of the beach is small and the height of the beach is matched at the lake level.  Steep grades or beaches that are higher at the lake edge will wash into the lake.

Materials (dirt, sand, etc.) added to your property must be prevented from washing back into the lake and across the property line.  With the exception of seawalls and retaining walls, hauling in sand is discouraged as it has the potential of eroding into the lake.

Residents are required to utilize a suitable method for pulling sand back up to their property from the lake.  Removing sand from the lake is allowed.
